Minutes - January 9, 2013

  

  1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

  2. Executive Session On a motion duly made and seconded, the board voted unanimously to enter Executive Session at 6:30 p.m., with the superintendent remaining. On a motion duly made and seconded, the board voted unanimously to leave Executive Session at 7:13 p.m.

    1. Contract Negotiations

  3. Return to Open Session 7:13 p.m.

  4. Adjust/Review Agenda Warrants were removed from the consent agenda.

  5. Public Comments Community members argued against some of the proposed reductions to the FY14 school budget.

  6. Discuss Bond Items – MPS Director of Facilities Thom Wood A revised list of capital improvement bond items for FY14 was distributed.

  7. Discuss FY14 School Budget Superintendent Ricca and the Administrative Team presented the second draft of the FY14 school budget. Proposed additions were discussed. Mrs. Aldrich expressed concern about the possibility of losing great teachers if positions are cut to part-time. The Board directed Superintendent Ricca and the Administrative Team to review the proposed budget reductions and additions and to return to the next scheduled meeting on January 16th with a budget that contains no further spending from the budget presented tonight, but which represents the most appropriate budget given current fiscal circumstances.

Mr. Jones moved, seconded by Mrs. Bean, to approve the consent agenda including minutes of the December 19, 2012 regular meeting, a leave of absence request, FY14 maximum tuition rates in the amounts of $11,000 for grades K-6, $14,500 for grades 7-12 and $50,000 for the Summit Program, and a co-curricular contract (see listing). Motion carried unanimously.

  • Congratulations to all of the Nordic skiers who skied last Wednesday in the bitter cold. (Mrs. Bean)

  • Mr. Jones addressed expressed concerns in regard to parents taking over decisions of the school board.
