The aim of the elementary art program is to provide
a positive art experience for all children in grades K-5. Through
the use of a wide variety of media, such as drawing, painting,
printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, and crafts, students learn to
express themselves in creative and individual ways.
Art reproductions, slides, texts, films and field trips to local
galleries and businesses related to the arts are used as background
for art history and as motivation for art projects.
Projects are designed to help develop problem-solving skills,
decision-making skills, verbal skills, fine and gross motor skills,
and eye-hand coordination. Projects are also designed to stimulate
imagination and creativity. Students learn about themselves and
their environment through careful observation. Above all, the
art program seeks to develop and instill a feeling of pride and
self-confidence that will be beneficial in all aspects of life.
